Questions About HEIC Files

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps about the same quality as JPEG in a smaller file, but many Windows PCs and websites can’t open it.

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?

Open the HEIC photo in Glance, choose Export As, pick JPEG and save. The conversion happens on your device.

Is Glance's HEIC viewer free?

Yes. Glance is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 licence, with no account, adverts or watermarks.

Are my HEIC files uploaded anywhere?

No. Glance opens files on your own device, in your browser or in the Windows app. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for private documents.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Install Glance from your browser (Add to Home Screen on a phone) and it opens files with no internet connection.

Can I open HEIC files on iPhone, Android or Mac?

Yes. The browser version works in Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox on phones, tablets and computers. The Windows app adds Explorer thumbnails and opening files with a double-click.
